United Way gives $1.2 million in grants.(Nonprofit Notebook) - Bellingham Business Journal

Twenty-nine local nonprofit organizations were awarded nearly $1.2 million in grants from the United Way of Whatcom County in June. Grants were awarded in four areas. Agencies that provide food and shelter, including the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Opportunity Council, received $357,600 in grant money. Programs that develop the health of youth and families, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Girl Scouts, YMCA and the Mother Baby Center, received grants totaling $333,760. The United Way awarded $274,160 in grants to organizations that promote health and wellness, including the Visiting Nurse Personal Services, Interfaith Health Clinic, and the Health Support Center. For programs that promote safety and help reduce violence and abuse, including Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, NW Youth Services, and Womencare Shelter, the United Way granted $226,480.
