Nov. 8--Thomas M. Fisher has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer for University Health Systems, the nonprofit corporation that owns and operates the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

UHS President and CFO Joseph Landsman Jr. on Monday announced Fisher's appointment, which is effective Jan. 1.

Fisher, 49, had served as interim CFO since the departure this summer of Diane Harden, who is now senior vice president and chief financial officer for DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. UHS conducted a nationwide search, considering several candidates, before choosing Fisher for the position, UTMC spokeswoman Lisa McNeal said.

'We are extremely excited to have Tom accept this challenging position, as he brings a wealth of financial and industry expertise to our organization,' Landsman said in a statement. Prior to UTMC, Fisher, a licensed certified public accountant, had worked in various positions at Pershing Yoakley and Associates since 1988.

He holds a degree in accounting and economics from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y., and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, Hospital Financial Management Association and Tennessee Society of CPAs. He also sits on the board of Interfaith Health Clinic.
